This past week was a very difficult week for our staff and families in Guatemala. One of our own lost his battle with Liver disease. For many that travel to Guatemala you know and have come to love Sandra and Jackie, and know they are an important part of Clubhouse. Those that have not been with us long may not know that Sandra has been with us almost since the beginning of Clubhouse.

Saturday, Fernando called me to share that Jose had passed away. Carla and I immediately changed our schedules and flew to be with Sandra and her girls on Sunday. When we arrived we went straight to the funeral service. This would be my first Guatemala funeral and I want to respectfully share some of the differences so you can better understand the culture....

This week has been monumental for myself and our entire family. At 4AM Monday morning we were woken by a text that "we are headed to the hospital". So we hurried to get ready and drove really fast through the city of Knoxville to get to the hospital to meet our very first Grandchild. As we arrived Zach met us to share that Alli was in labor but the hospital wanted them to go to their doctor. After a doctors visit it was determined that yes our little lady would be arriving later that day.

I remember sitting in the waiting room and thinking, I'm not old enough for this, Zach is not ready for this, Alli needed relief from all of the pain. Carla is old enough but not ready to be a Granna.( Yes I am in trouble!) So many emotions and so much ...

For years I have heard the term "Living on Faith", but I never really understood the full meaning until we moved to the mission field.I think back to 2008 when I spent Thanksgiving in Guatemala with just Julian and Jadon. Our family was struggling to survive our first few months on the mission field. Our adoption wasn't done, Carla's dad had just died, and Katie and Zach were both struggling to adjust. I remember many nights crying out to God and asking him to show us, simply, that He was in this and with us.

That particular Thanksgiving was so hard because my family was in the states but I needed to stay to take care of the boys since they could not legally travel yet. I remember being so depressed because I couldn't eat any of my moms...

One of my favorite songs growing up was Kool and the Gangs "Celebration". It is a fun song that really helps get you in the mood to celebrate. Today I am singing that song in my head as I get ready to drive from Guatemala City to Antigua. Today is a big day for Clubhouse and even bigger day for one of our kids. It is Graduation Celebration!!!!!!!

One of our very first children in our Programs was a little girl named Maria.Maria grew up in San Mateo. Maria was very shy, and never wanted to speak or even smile as I would try to practice my horrible Spanish with her. Over the first year I would give Maria a hard time and this eventually led to her smiling and laughing at me. Soon after she entered the program Maria was sponsored by some awe...

This past week has exciting as we have launched our new website, launched a new fundraiser with a cool T-shirt, and spent a day refocusing through prayer and fasting. God has been teaching our staff a lot of things over the past few weeks. However sometimes what we learn comes from the examples of others. On our new shirt it has a very simple message of "You have one life, Do Something".

(For sale in our store and feeds 25 people)

That is a very profound statement when you stop and think about it. There have been a few students and kids that have taught me that we can all do something!

I was very hesitant about writing this as one of the first blogs on our new website. This should be a time of great celebration as we are launching an amazing new tool to help keep you informed about the things God is doing through Clubhouse in Guatemala. We have seen and continue to see Him move in incredible ways. However we have come to a crossroads as a ministry at this moment in time.

In 2008 when Carla and I moved to Guatemala we were a small family looking to go share the gospel through block parties. We had no idea where God would take this ministry. Our prayer has always been "God we are yours, and we will go and do whatever you want. I feel that as a family we have given all we have and will continue to do so. Today our ministr...
